Quit smoking, start living

Imagine yourself striking flame to a cigarette. You repeatedly make plans to stop, but has trouble working on that concern any sooner. You still take a heavy whiff off that cigarette even as you think of how hazardous it gets with each batch of tar you breathe in. You realize you’ll have to quit smoking forever before you cut away your life early and miss out on things just because of a tendency that is simply a self-sustaining vice.

Indeed, the best method to enjoy our days is to stay healthy and live long; steering clear from destructive vices and living our existence to its maximum. Thoughts on this course may sound contrary to those who take pleasure from smoking, but it most likely was started through pressure by your peers in the first place or, acting defiant for one moment, got influenced into the disgusting habit. Such self-destructive behavior never starting off great will correspondingly ,not under any condition, end great.

Experts have always agreed how harmful smoking cigarettes are. With compounds such as arsenic (used in rat poisons), ammonia (used in floor cleaners) and butane (used in lighter fluids), among many others, it is no surprise that many individuals who smoke develop a life-threatening affliction. We are bombarded with numerous advertisements, pieces of advice, studies and journals about such harmful effects, including the trouble it brings to non-smokers who inhale the polluted air. Smoking therefore not only shortens your life expectancy but also affect those who are not in on the act in the first place. This puts a double culpability in your hands – you have to preserve your health and take care of your body and give others the chance to have a smoke free environment to enjoy.

Other than the obvious health benefits, you also will feel a very heartening affection of being able to accomplish a task, in this case, breaking the addiction. It will let you show a better view on your own self and though you have to put yourself on very taxing situations to follow your new beliefs, you will surface feeling adequate and in good condition

On taking the path to recovery, be assured on the fact that you have chosen to be the molder of your life. Annually, millions of dollars is spent on ads for getting new people to be hooked on their nicotine products. Once corporations get them hooked, they become slaves to their addiction and commence on accumulating more and more to please their cravings. These persons, including you as a smoker, are thus put into submission by big enterprises that do not discriminate on what is good or bad for an individual. Quitting cigarettes is to strike a crack, however small, on their undesirable influence.

Never forget that the choice to quit always lies within you. Resolve is integral, but help from family members and peers as well as remembering every day the reasons why you decided to stop smoking will ease your long, difficult journey to a nicer life.

Heartburn Relief and Suggestions

Heartburn is a burning sensation in the chest caused by the movement of stomach acid into the esophagus. It is very common, but fortunately, many options exist for heartburn relief. This article gives an overview of some of them.

Heartburn Relief Through Drugs

Mild cases of heartburn can be cured through over the counter antacids such as Tums or Gaviscon. These are sufficient for occasional outbreaks, but should not be used where heartburn occurs more than two or three times a week, due to the risk of kidney damage.

For more severe or chronic cases of heartburn, histamine receptor blockers such as Pepcid AC or Zantac can provide ongoing relief. They work by blocking the production of stomach acid. They do not provide instant relief, taking 45 minutes to an hour to work and so are best taken either on a daily basis or an hour before you eat that 5-alarm chili that you know you’re going to regret later! The long term effects of histamine receptor blockers are unknown, but some researchers fear that an ongoing reduction in the overall acidity of the stomach could lead to the patient being more susceptible to infections.

More recently, combined antacids and histamine receptor blockers have appeared on the market, led by Pepcid Complete. These combine the advantages (and the drawbacks) of the two classes of heartburn relief medicines mentioned above.

Heartburn Relief Through Surgery

In the most severe 10% of cases, drugs alone may not be enough to provide sufficient heartburn relief. A surgical procedure called fundoplication can inhibit heartburn by putting pressure on the sphincter muscle that allows the stomach acid to flow into the esophagus. The rate of success of this procedure has been low traditionally, with 65% of patients reporting a recurrence of heartburn in few years, however newer, less invasive forms of fundoplication have developed recently that have increased the chance of permanent heartburn relief.

Heartburn Relief Through Lifestyle Changes

Not all cures for heartburn involve drugs or doctors. Some can be achieved through simple lifestyle changes. Drinking milk can help line the stomach, and is particularly recommended for heartburn relief during pregnancy. In order to prevent yourself from heartburn stay away from spicy, fatty, and fried foods. Alcohol and caffeine can also contribute towards heartburn. Generally speaking, the healthier your lifestyle, the less chance you have of developing heartburn. Heartburn relief is readily available, but prevention is better than cure.

Eating Your Way To Reduced Blood Pressure

High blood pressure has reached epidemic proportions in the US today with over 65 million people having high blood pressure and another 45 million suffering from a condition known as pre-hypertension. A symptomless condition, high blood pressure heightens your risk of heart attack and stroke and you could quite easily be suffering from it without any knowledge of it until it is too late.

Of course there are medications available that can assist in lowering blood pressure, but many of these are accompanied by side effects and, although some people might have to take medication at least in the short term to control high blood pressure, a far better answer is to seek out some natural remedies for high blood pressure if you are able to.

For almost all of us high blood pressure is related to weight and diet and this is a huge problem today when two thirds of Americans are either overweight or obese. Furthermore, the majority of Americans get way too much salt in their diet and not enough of the many other beneficial things which can actually reduce blood pressure. In a nutshell, you can eat your way to a lower blood pressure, if you know how to do it.

In truth, it is often possible to normalize your blood pressure quite quickly if you alter your diet and start to take some exercise. Having said this, if you’ve not been exercising for a long period of time you should not suddenly begin a vigorous exercise program and it is always sensible to consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

To begin with though let’s talk about some things which you should avoid and top of the list is salt. Salt (or sodium) is one of the main culprits in today’s epidemic of high blood pressure. Excessive dietary fat is also an offender because it encourages arteriosclerosis, weight gain, and other problems that result in high blood pressure. So, two things which you ought to avoid in your diet are salt and excess fat, principally saturated or trans fats.

So, what types of food should you have in your diet to help you in lowering your blood pressure? Potassium is one of the chief substances which is lacking in today’s American diet and which is extremely beneficial for your blood pressure. Potassium assists in lowering blood pressure just as sodium helps raise your blood pressure and therefore including sufficient potassium in your diet can help even out blood pressure.

It is easy to get potassium in your diet by simply loading up on fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, as long as they have no added salt or sugar. Even though this may seem tasteless to many people, it is an excellent way to ensure that you regularize your blood pressure. Naturally of course, at the same time you also want to cut down on the salt to no more than the daily sodium intake recommended of about 2400 mg each day. A very good way to do this is not to add salt to your diet at all as natural and unprocessed foods contain sufficient salt and, if you feel you need to flavor your food then simply try adding herbs and spices.

Magnesium and calcium are two other minerals which can help to reduce blood pressure. These two minerals are considered calming minerals and the majority of Americans do not get enough of them in their diets. Dairy products that are low in fat are an excellent source of calcium as are legumes, nuts, and dark leafy green vegetables. You should aim to get a balance of roughly two parts of magnesium to three parts of calcium. Foods such as white beans, sesame seeds and soybeans not only have a lot of magnesium and calcium but they are also excellent sources of potassium.

Lastly, ensure that you drink enough water and also get enough fiber in your diet. Fiber is important because it helps to clear toxins and unhealthy substances out of your body and it also helps you feel full so that you are not tempted to overeat.

Checking For Heartburn Symptoms

Some symptoms of heartburn are so common that you can avoid them by recognizing them.  The reason for this is that many times people who are having sever chest pains may mistake the feeling for heartburn symptoms when in fact they are having a heart attack. It is best to be sure definite of what the symptoms of heartburn are so that you can be sure that you are not in serious medical problem. Heartburn pregnancy symptoms are similar but have a much different cause.

Checking For Heartburn Symptoms

Heartburn symptoms are themselves not harmful to you, but can be extremely painful.  Actual heartburn is the name for the symptoms and is caused by something called acid reflux. It is the condition of medical with heartburn being the real symptoms of that particular condition.  What triggers acid reflux can very from person to person, sometimes it is diet, sometimes hereditary, and sometimes it can just be brought on for no apparent reason.

The first and most commonly recognized heartburn symptom is a painful burning sensation in the chest. This sensation starts behind the sternum and can travel up to the throat.  It usually comes on quickly after the onset of acid reflux and can last a few minutes to many hours.  Accompanying this can be a burning sensation in the throat, usually fairly high up on the neck.  This sensation generally will not be present in more serious conditions.   This pain is usually aggravated by swallowing and results from contents of the stomach coming up into the back of the throat.  In addition a person will often have a sour taste in the back of their mouth.

These symptoms also come with a difficulty in swallowing.  Food will seem to not travel easily down the esophagus down to the stomach.Normally there is a sensation of food being stuck in the throat followed by the chest pressure and burning above.  This condition can be far more serious and should be checked out by a physician if it persists continually.

One thing that is commonly overlooked is chronic coughing in non smokers. In recent studies it has been shown that almost half of all chronic cases can be tied back to acid reflux.  The discomfort in the stomach causes the person to have a frequent and persistent cough that does not seem to have a cure.In any case, if you are coughing frequently it is a good reason to go see a doctor.
