Heartburn Relief and Suggestions

More recently, combined antacids and histamine receptor blockers have appeared on the market, led by Pepcid Complete. These combine the advantages (and the drawbacks) of the two classes of heartburn relief medicines mentioned above.

Heartburn Relief Through Surgery

In the most severe 10% of cases, drugs alone may not be enough to provide sufficient heartburn relief. A surgical procedure called fundoplication can inhibit heartburn by putting pressure on the sphincter muscle that allows the stomach acid to flow into the esophagus. The rate of success of this procedure has been low traditionally, with 65% of patients reporting a recurrence of heartburn in few years, however newer, less invasive forms of fundoplication have developed recently that have increased the chance of permanent heartburn relief.

Heartburn Relief Through Lifestyle Changes

Not all cures for heartburn involve drugs or doctors. Some can be achieved through simple lifestyle changes. Drinking milk can help line the stomach, and is particularly recommended for heartburn relief during pregnancy. In order to prevent yourself from heartburn stay away from spicy, fatty, and fried foods. Alcohol and caffeine can also contribute towards heartburn. Generally speaking, the healthier your lifestyle, the less chance you have of developing heartburn. Heartburn relief is readily available, but prevention is better than cure.

Lastly, ensure that you drink enough water and also get enough fiber in your diet. Fiber is important because it helps to clear toxins and unhealthy substances out of your body and it also helps you feel full so that you are not tempted to overeat.

Checking For Heartburn Symptoms

Heartburn symptoms are themselves not harmful to you, but can be extremely painful.  Actual heartburn is the name for the symptoms and is caused by something called acid reflux.It is the condition of medical with heartburn being the real symptoms of that particular condition.  What triggers acid reflux can very from person to person, sometimes it is diet, sometimes hereditary, and sometimes it can just be brought on for no apparent reason.

The first and most commonly recognized heartburn symptom is a painful burning sensation in the chest.This sensation starts behind the sternum and can travel up to the throat.  It usually comes on quickly after the onset of acid reflux and can last a few minutes to many hours.  Accompanying this can be a burning sensation in the throat, usually fairly high up on the neck.  This sensation generally will not be present in more serious conditions.   This pain is usually aggravated by swallowing and results from contents of the stomach coming up into the back of the throat.  In addition a person will often have a sour taste in the back of their mouth.

These symptoms also come with a difficulty in swallowing.  Food will seem to not travel easily down the esophagus down to the stomach.Normally there is a sensation of food being stuck in the throat followed by the chest pressure and burning above.  This condition can be far more serious and should be checked out by a physician if it persists continually.

One thing that is commonly overlooked is chronic coughing in non smokers.In recent studies it has been shown that almost half of all chronic cases can be tied back to acid reflux.  The discomfort in the stomach causes the person to have a frequent and persistent cough that does not seem to have a cure.In any case, if you are coughing frequently it is a good reason to go see a doctor.

An ideal healthy blood pressure level is a systolic reading of 120 and a diastolic reading of 80. If a person has a reading of 140/90 they have what is termed stage one hypertension. A person with a blood pressure measurement of 160/100 or more has stage two hypertension and is at very high risk of having a stroke, heart attack or aneurysm.

If a person has hypertension their heart is working much harder than that of an individual with healthy blood pressure levels. This can cause congestive heart failure or heart attack. Hypertension is often exacerbated by narrow or very congested arteries and capillaries. This can cause clots to form and increases the risk of stroke or aneurysm. Elevated blood pressure can also cause blood vessels in major organs to burst. A number of blood vessels in the kidneys reduces their function and make them fail. Burst blood vessels in the eyes can cause blurred vision, partial loss of sight or at worse blindness. Kidney failure, stroke, aneurysm, heart attack and heart failure can lead to death, so elevated hypertension requires prompt and aggressive medical treatment.

You can avoid hypertension and maintain healthy blood pressure levels by making a few simple lifestyle amendments. Make sure you keep your BMI between 18 and 25 and find the time to exercise for at least half and hour three times per week. Try to avoid caffeine, nicotine and foods that are high in trans fats, sodium or sugar. Ice cream, for example, is considered particularly bad for the blood pressure.  Do not drink more than one or two units of alcohol in any twenty-four hour period.

I you want a very healthy blood pressure level you should also ensure that you get an adequate amount of vitamins and minerals in your diet, drink plenty of water, get sufficient rest, avoid stressors and increase your intake of foods such as bananas, avocados, oats, broccoli, olive oil, garlic, apples and oranges.
