Foods that Make You Glow and Grow

posted in skin care |

The term “Beauty is only skin deep” takes on a whole new meaning when we realize that our skin is the first indicator of our body’s health. Illness and disease bring on a sickly pallor while hale and hearty people are seen to positively glow with good health. You don’t have to resort to creams and lotions to make your skin radiate energy and vitality and delay showing signs of aging (in fact, staying away from makeup could work wonders for your skin) - it’s enough if you eat the right foods. It’s not that difficult a thing to do, not when they’re ordinary fruits, vegetables and beverages.

• Chomp those Citrus Fruits: An orange a day keeps the wrinkles away, so eat as many citrus fruits as you can. They’re chock full of Vitamin C that’s a great anti-oxidant and also extremely good for preventing your skin from sagging as you grow older.

• Water Works Wonders: Drink as many glasses as you can of this wonder of nature. It’s best when you take it in it’s plain form, but if you’d rather go for juices, make sure they’re made from real fruits and do not contain any sugar. Water helps flush out the toxins in your body when you sweat, prevents dehydration that leads to dry, itchy and scaly skin, and also helps you lose weight.

• Fish For Fine Skin: The Omega 3 fatty acids found in freshwater fish like salmon, trout and tuna are good sources of proteins and anti-oxidants that help protect against aging and repair damaged skin cells.

• Tea Time Treatment: If you need your daily dose of caffeine, get it from tea rather than coffee. Tea, besides being a stimulant, is a rich source of anti-oxidants. The green variety is the best in terms of helping you fight cancer and signs of aging.

• Color Care: Bring on the reds, purples, oranges and greens – they’re the ones to make your skin glow in the pink of health. Confused at the rainbow of colors? It’s pretty simple – eat more fruits and vegetables that are colorful, like tomatoes, plums, blueberries, oranges, fresh green and leafy veggies, and you can be certain you’re on the road to gaining radiant skin. They are high in antioxidants and Vitamin A, both of which prevent free radicals from damaging your skin and also help in the growth and repair of cells.

So get started right away and stock your fridge with these foods that say yes to skin that’s sexy and smooth.
